STEPHEN EDWARDS IS THE NEW G2K PRESIDENT

KINGSTON, Jamaica: Generation 2000 (G2K), the young professional affiliate of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), held its annual general meeting on Saturday, where its members elected former Vice President Stephen Edwards as its new President. Edwards, a Civil Engineer and former University Lecturer, succeeds Senator Matthew Samuda who did not seek re-election.

The organization also elected Vice Presidents Ms. Daniella Allen, Ms. Tashay Rhoden, Mr. Edson Z. Carr and Mr. Ozane Bell, who all went unopposed. The General Secretary post was contested by Mr. Oludiad Brown and former Vice President Omar Francis. The final result saw Brown defeating Francis 51-19 by way of G2K’s electoral college system to become the new General Secretary of the organization.

Edwards noted “Since its inception Generation 2000 has always been effective in policy development and has worked closely with the leadership of the JLP in media relations. Jamaicans can expect G2K to be more strident than ever in the development of creative and credible solutions to Jamaica’s Challenges.

While addressing the members of G2K, the Prime Minister of Jamaica, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, challenged the members of the organization to find solutions that will serve all Jamaicans, especially with regards to the development of Economic Independence, as it is the only sustainable path out of poverty.

Edwards went on to state “With the Jamaica Labour Party taking control of both Central Government and Local Government there is now a tremendous opportunity for young professionals to not only present new ideas on national development but to also play an integral role in seeing them to fruition”
