G2K CALLS FOR LISA HANNA TO STEP ASIDE AND MOCA TO INVESTIGATE
Kingston, Jamaica: Generation 2000 (G2K) the young professional affiliate of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) is calling on Lisa Hanna to immediately step aside as Member of Parliament. The organization’s call follows the tabling of the report by the Office of the Contractor General (OCG) on the investigation into constituency office of South-East St Ann Member of Parliament Lisa Hanna, regarding the award of Government contracts in the parish.
The long-awaited report recommends that criminal investigations be pursued into a possible conspiracy between Ms. Hanna’s South-East St. Ann Constituency Office, the St. Ann Municipal Corporation and Contractors to defraud the Government of Jamaica. Furthermore, the OCG’s report states that the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) should also investigate whether Ms. Hanna wilfully misconducted herself by acting fraudulently.
“The Contractor General’s report brings Lisa Hanna’s political office, members of the constituency executive and herself into disrepute. Given that Ms. Hanna is at the centre of the controversy and the fact that her own actions are recommended for investigation, she should do the right thing by immediately stepping aside as Member of Parliament to allow thorough and transparent investigations to proceed,” said G2K President, Stephen Edwards
In October 2017 G2K called for the tabling of the OCG’s report which the country has been waiting on it since 2015. The final five hundred and fifty-four (554) page report has also been referred to the Financial Investigations Division of the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service (FID). However, Generation 2000 believes that the case should also be referred to the Major Organized Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) for investigation.
President Edwards further stated, “Given that the alleged web of conspiracy involves members of multiple organizations, including operatives of the PNP, elected officials, contractors and the St. Ann Municipal Corporation, it would be prudent to also utilize the skills and resources of MOCA to uncover all the relevant details of the case.”
Generation 2000 is calling on the Office of the Contractor General to also refer the report to the Major Organized Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency for consideration and/or investigation.
